If you do not have an internet connection and have travelled for a longer period of time, the first attempt to acquire your position at the destination may take a bit longer than usual.
To be speed up the process of determining your position, connect your device to the internet via WiFi. This will allow the device to update the positioning-database for your region. After successfully determining your positiong you will no longer require an internet connection (but need to leave WiFi enabled).
You can also try to enable Data Roaming to acquire your first position. You can disable it again once your position has been determined. (Using Data Roaming to acquire your position may incur costs for you: Device Settings > General > Network > Data Roaming)
